The Encounter Ministry is operated by Men of Purpose LLC, a 501(c)(3) non-profit Christian ministry organization founded in 2014 in Northern Nevada. The original purpose for founding the organization was to establish a means for bringing a Men’s Encounter to every church in the Sparks/Reno area. Since then our ministry has expanded throughout Nevada, California and all the way to Michigan and back. With Encounters planned in Alabama, Texas, and Ohio, we are intent on reaching the entire nation and God willing the world. As we have grown we have developed Women’s Encounters, and are soon bringing Marriage and Youth Encounters to several regions. We deeply believe it is our purpose to offer men and women the opportunity to passionately serve their spouses, families, and churches. The Encounter is just one facet of our ministry that establishes us as a partner for local churches in areas that include compassionate care, counseling, and discipleship in order to fulfill our original mission of serving every community in Christ.
We believe that there is one true holy God who is Trinity, existing eternally as three equal and distinct persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God continues, through his providence and power to care for and sustain His creation.
The Bible is the core truth of our ministry. We believe the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments to be infallible and inerrant truth given to man by God through His Holy Spirit.
Salvation is God's free gift, but we must first accept it. We believe God desires all to be in eternal fellowship with Him, therefore through faith in His saving grace we can repent and be reconciled to him forever.
We believe Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, came to Earth through the virgin birth as a man. He lived a perfect life, which he gave upon the Cross. Three days after his physical death, Jesus returned and ascended to sit at the right hand of the Father, promising to send the Holy Spirit and to return and fulfill God's eternal plan. Jesus is the only intercessor between man and God and therefore the only way to salvation.
Before leaving, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to empower men and women to continue his work in the world. The Holy Spirit is our sole source of hope, strength, wisdom, and joy. He gifts us with the ability to love, serve, and build the Kingdom beyond our own ability.
All who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are united with him as members of his Body, the Church. The Church exists wherever God's people meet to worship, pray, serve each other, and study His word.
We believe the purpose of baptism is to publicly declare oneself as a believer in Jesus Christ. It is ultimately an act of obedience as all are commanded; symbolizing spiritual cleansing as one chooses to accept God's forgiveness and rebirth as one joins in His resurrection.
We are often asked these important questions about how we operate as ministry.
We are formed as a non-profit charitable organization, but not as a church. Over the years we have grown to represent dozens of churches across the nation. Our goal is first and foremost to support the local churches and their leadership through programs that equip men and women to serve their communities and beyond (Ephesians 4:12). However, we do see ourselves a part of the Body of Christ, and His Church and therefore hold ourselves to the same Biblical standards of accountability.
Our ministry has men and women serving from all walks of life and all stages of faith. While they represent a broad spectrum from Evangelical to Charismatic, our focus is and will always be centered on the Gospel. Our closest partner churches tend to be Protestant, with some Southern Baptist, though most are non-denominational. That said, we don’t ascribe to any doctrinal statements, beliefs, or conventions beyond those listed above. We encourage our members to find and join a local church that first and foremost stands upon this Gospel, loves Jesus Christ and His Word, and second offers them opportunity to serve and grow in Christ.
We operate from the generosity of the local churches, men, and women in our host communities. However, we have a very strict giving policy, we ask those willing to sacrificially support our ministry first give and support their local church. We generate the majority of our revenue from events like the Men’s and Women’s Encounter. However, these events are designed to operate at a loss, and the generosity of our sponsors and partners ensures that all are able to attend regardless of their financial or economic situation.
The short answer is, of course not. The ministry was originally founded to address the need for supporting and encouraging men to be Godly husbands, fathers, and brothers in Christ. In our desire to see stronger marriages, churches, and places of business, we recognize it is equally important to equip women to act as active witness to the power of the Cross. We truly seek to be used by God as an influential and transformation presence in the lives of men, women, and children in these communities. We are therefore committed to building programs that love, reach, and serve all of God’s people.
Are you just about the Encounter?
Many men and women of our ministry after being first impacted by the Encounter ask us this question. Since our goal has always been to build up the local church, we work hard to established partnerships to provide other ministry opportunities. But our core focus for the time being is the Encounter Ministry, its a big undertaking that takes the tireless support and dedication of many men and women. However, we are always looking for partner ministries that will follow this same model in the areas of counseling and compassionate care, addictions, marriage and relationships, and missions. If you have any ministries you’d like to recommend please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org
